For the most part, there did not appear to be any correlation between latitude and wind speed.

However, there does appear to be a greater frequency of high wind speeds at more extreme latitudes. This is especially aparent in the southern hemisphere. This may be due to the lack of land to slow or stop high winds, which alows strong winds to circumnavigate the globe near -50 degrees latitude.
